Get to know customers

Collecting web data helps to understand customers. By looking at page visits it helps with figuring out interest. By continuing to visit the same page it can be determined that a customer is considering the purchase of a product.

Engagement making purchasing easy

Engagement is the ability for a website to understand a visitors intent.  Once the website understands the visitors intent it adapts itself to put visitors on a desired path.  Websites that understand visitors are slowly becoming more popular.  These types of websites aren’t moving fast due to the lack of marketing teams’ knowledge of the technology.

Why use websites that understand visitors?

Websites that understand allow marketing teams to provide multiple experiences. One web page can appear different based on who is viewing it at the time. Even if the page is different for some, notably other users aren’t aware of it.

Engagement Conversions

Marketing teams have to get better; they have to understand how to communicate with visitors to create conversions.  Smarter website technology allows for easier website conversions but demands more skills.  Conversions are the true goal of any website regardless of the industry. Downloading brochures, product purchases and filling out forms are conversion examples.

No elaborate diagramming

No elaborate diagramming

I look back and remember a couple of meetings I was involved in that truly didn’t go well. I know they didn’t go well because the project never produced any results. What I remember about every meeting was the complex diagram that was showed each time. No one ever asked any questions and I’m sure it’s because they didn’t understand the diagram.

Keep diagramming as simple as possible. If you can’t consider breaking up the diagram into smaller manageable chunks.

Making it fun again

Making it fun again

At some point I stopped having fun. I worked hard because I enjoyed it. My creativity was at its highest because my job wasn’t work, it was just the extra time I spent doing something cool. I’ve got to get back to this feeling.

Always continue to improve your marketing and digital learning

Always continue to improve your marketing and digital learning

It has taken me 17 years to learn what I know about the intranet and internet. I’ve seen a lot of things and can instantly tell when someone has true experience verses book knowledge.

To be good at digital marketing and generate leads you need to have some failures. The failed campaigns you created are truly what teach you how to figure out what works. Sometimes you’ll even repeat failed campaigns because you are hoping to find a different outcome.

In my experience the outcome is usually the same. You can try to tweak the failed campaigns but there is a chance it’s just a bad idea and it’s time to move on. You can only learn that lesson from experience.

What’s happening to social platforms?

What’s happening to social platforms?

It feels like we’ve forgotten that social gained traction because it was something different. Platforms like Facebook gave you a way to get in touch with friends that you had lost in high school. LinkedIn was a way to find coworkers of your past and find new potential career choices.

From a marketing perspective both of these platforms are starting to be places to throw any types of ads you want on them hoping to land customers. This is starting to move these platforms away from the entire reason people decided to be on them.

Don’t be intrusive

Don’t be intrusive

I get a lot of emails and phone calls from people trying to sale things. It gets to be overwhelming considering I have a job to get done throughout the day. I’m sure everyone has a great product but I can’t listen to everyone’s pitch. My job is to help my company promote aircraft.

If you want my attention make sure you understand that I’m a digital marketer. Figure out how to get my attention without pestering or spamming me.

Blog about real examples of how a person like myself could use your product. I don’t need to see a case study. Show me possibilities, that’s truly what I need to see. Once I see the possibilities I can make the connection of how your product can help me. That’s when I will call you or send you a message that I would be interested in learning more about your product.

Sometimes we forget our own intentions online

Sometimes we forget our own intentions online

I use both a computer and cell phone everyday for personal browsing or shopping. It depends truly on what I’m looking at and what I intend to do. If I plan on buying something my odds of using my personal computer to make the purchase is higher. If I’m doing research and I’m out and not at home I will use my cell phone. How do you use your devices?
